The Tiffin-Seneca Public Library is happy to offer a variety of online learning resources for our patrons. Using these tools, you can learn about the latest technology for web development and software, prepare for a job interview, or get homework help from a live tutor. BlueCareer is a workforce development platform for public libraries that provides information on over 100 trade professions across 15 industries. Library users looking to start their career can take a simple personality assessment to have the platform suggest trades that may be of interest; and users who already know what interests them can navigate directly to those trades.

No matter what trade they decide to explore, users will discover a host of valuable facts. The site explains what someone in that field does, how much demand there is for those workers in the current job market, and how much they earn on average. Those looking for second-chance employment can discover what percentage of employers require a clean criminal record for workers in their selected field. Users can get a feel for what a workday is like for each trade through the site’s carefully vetted collection of YouTube videos and Instagram accounts. Each trade’s profile outlines methods for getting into the field, whether that be attending trade school (including comprehensive information on over 600 trade schools), finding an apprenticeship, or taking a different path altogether.

Northstar Digital Literacy defines basic skills needed to perform tasks on computers and online. Online, self-guided modules assess the ability of individuals to perform tasks based on these skills. Included are basic computer digital literacy standards and modules in three main areas:

• Essential Computer Skills - Basic Computer Skills, Internet Basics, Using Email, Windows OS, Mac OS

• Essential Software Skills – Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs

• Using Technology in Daily Life - Social Media, Information Literacy, Career Search Skills, Supporting K-12 Distance Learning, Your Digital Footprint.

Northstar was developed in response to the needs of job seekers who may lack the digital literacy skills needed to seek, obtain, and retain employment, as well as to perform other tasks in daily life. Northstar allows users to freely take the assessments from anywhere.
